Jazz WaHi presents The Melting Pot Jazz Series, Thursdays in June, on the lawn at St. Francis Cabrini Shrine. A series of free, outdoor, family-friendly concerts celebrating the Immigrant’s influence on Jazz.

Bring chairs, blankets, picnics. Indoors in case of rain.

This week, students of the Manhattan School of Music Hugh Masekela Scholarship program bring you their joyous blend of South African Jazz!

Hugh Masekela, legendary South African musician, activist, and life-long advocate and embodiment of African identity, heritage, and expression, studied classical trumpet at Manhattan School of Music in the early 1960’s. To honor the legacy of this internationally-renowned alumnus, the ELMA Music Foundation and the Hugh Masekela Heritage Foundation have partnered with MSM to provide full scholarships to six South African music students to pursue Bachelor of Music degrees.

This project is made possible in part with funds from UMEZ Arts Engagement , a regrant program supported by the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone (UMEZ), and administered by LMCC.
