SUMMARY:Inwood Art Works: THE UPTOWN CABARET
DESCRIPTION:Inwood Art Works and No Name present THE UPTOWN CABARET \nWhy travel to Times Square\, when you can experience the brilliance of Broadway and the magic of musical theater steps from your home uptown? The Uptown Cabaret offers unforgettable performances by local musical theater singers\, composers and lyricists from Broadway and the professional theater in Inwood\, NYC! The Uptown Cabaret will occur every Second Monday of the Month. \nHeadliner Amy Engelhardt  Hosted by Alexandra de Suze  Featuring performances by Eric Vetter\, Richard Binder\, Brown Furlo\, Miles Blue Spruce\, Carl Fortunato\, and Ian Broadsky. \nBridge and tunnel theatre kid AMY ENGELHARDT recently came back to roost in NY after a long west coast detour and is really thrilled about it! Amy co-wrote lyrics and scored Off-Broadway Alliance Best New Musical Nominee BASTARD JONES (2x Eugene O’Neill/Richard Rodgers Award Finalist) at the cell theatre\, TRIPTYCH (NY Transit Museum commission)\, A COMEDY OF ERAS (ACT Seattle w/Flying Karamazov Brothers)\, O’Neill semifinalist/Kleban Prize finalist A COLLECTIBLE SENSATION (with Arianna Rose) and THE WILLING (Minneapolis TBA 2027). Her solo show IMPACT won the Best Score Jury Prize at the National Women’s Theatre Festival and has been produced at the Edinburgh Fringe\, The Tank NYC\, Fountain Theatre (LA) and London’s Voila Festival. Amy also co-created TUNE IN TIME\, NYC’s Musical Theater Game Show with producer Heather Shields (“the BMI workshop on steroids” – Stage Buddy) and is a MAC Songwriting Award winner. She toured as the resident “sub-lebrity” with Harry Shearer and Judith Owen’s CHRISTMAS WITHOUT TEARS annually (NY\, Chicago\, LA and New Orleans) and has appeared many times at Don’t Tell Mama\, the Duplex\, 54 Below\, the Green Room 42 and No Name’s downtown variety shows. From 1998-2012\, Amy was the sole female writer/performer/producer in Grammy-nominated vocal quartet THE BOBS. Now that she’s back in New York\, Amy wants you to know she has absolutely no intentions of finally playing ANNIE on Broadway. www.amyengelhardt.com \n$10 Suggested Donation – Pay-What-You-Will. No one will be turned away. All are welcome! Online and at the door.

SUMMARY:United Palace: Crackalackin' Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Crackalackin’ Concert of Classical Music\nBringing It Back Home\, Uptown \nOne of the United Palace of Cultural Arts’ (UPCA) programming goals is to find innovative ways to make classical music accessible to new and old audiences\, particularly by combining the genre with other art forms. “The Crackalackin’ Concert of Classical Music” serves as a dynamic platform designed to break down barriers and make the beauty of classical music accessible to everyone\, including underrepresented communities\, ensuring it resonates with a diverse and inclusive audience. (NOTE: “Crackalackin’” is old-time (as far back as the 1990s!) urban slang for what’s new\, relevant\, and happening. We think it is a great description of how people should feel about classical music.) \nThis year’s theme is Bringing It Back Home\, Uptown and features performances and mash-ups by: \n-Crackalackin’ Symphony Orchestra (Musicians of all ages are welcome to sign up here)\n-DJ Boo\n-Leadlights Ensemble\n-Washington Heights Community Choir (WHCC)\n-Washington Heights Community Conservatory of Fine Arts (WHCCFA) and Association of Dominican Classical Artists (ADCA) \n“So many people are turned off by classical music because they see it as a corny\, elitist art form\,” said Fitelson\, who 12 years ago co-created The Hip Hop Nutcracker\, now an annual touring show produced by New Jersey Performing Arts Center. “We believe classical music is timeless and seek new\, crackalackin’ ways to help audiences discover it.” \nAct I kicks off with a performance by the Crackalackin’ Symphony Orchestra\, freshly created for the event by community musicians of all skills\, performing new arrangements of Celia Cruz songs and William Grant Still’s “Poem for Orchestra.” \nThe event features the world-premiere of a collage of videos taken of the community by Northern Manhattan residents while students from several local community programs\, overseen by ADCA\, perform “Bacchanale Dance” from Camille Saint-Saëns’ grand opera “Samson and Delilah.” \nLeadlights performs “The Seasons of Inwood\,” created by violinst Evelyn Petcher based upon the wide range of stories\, musical ideas\, and reflections on Inwood. \nThe Washington Heights Community Choir sings tunes with local ties\, inviting the audience to join in a sing-along. \nAs always\, throughout the day DJ Boo will perform his turntable magic\, mixing the classical genre with the beats and sounds of today. \nAct II features the debut of 4 songs of a work-in-progress celebrating the United Palace’s 100th anniversary in 2030. The show\, “Wonder Theatre Revival\,” is a musical history of the United Palace and its audiences\, written by Mike Fitelson and brought to life by 6 singers and a dozen local musicians. \nDoors: 4:30pm\, Show: 5:00pm \n

SUMMARY:Inwood Art Works: FantAsia! Concert
DESCRIPTION:FantAsia! Featuring INTERWOVEN \nProgram\nSheng-Ching Hsu (arranger) – Battle Horses Galloping for Erhu and String Trio\nGamin & Tokunaga Keiko – Sajanoleum: Lion’s Blessings for Taepyeongso\, Piri and Strings*\nJay Reise – Orpheus in Meikai for Koto and String Quartet*\nMadoka Mori (arranger) – Jasmine Flower for Erhu and String Trio\nHung-Ping Apple Chang – In Harmony with Moon and Current for Erhu and String Trio*\n* world premiere \nFantAsia! is a vibrant celebration of Asian music\, traditions\, and cuisine. Highlighting the program are three world-premiere compositions that interlace Asian and Western musical worlds\, inspired by ancient legends\, traditional dances\, and shared philosophies. Join us as we welcome the Year of the Horse together! \nOne of INTERWOVEN’S signature programs\, FantAsia\, celebrates the sound of the East and West\, past and present. The concert opens with performances of historic Eastern Asian melodies\, featuring instruments such as the koto (Japanese zither) played by Yoko Reikano Kimura\, piri & saenghwang (Korean wind instruments) performed by Gamin\, and the erhu (Chinese two-stringed instrument) played by Andy Lin. As the audience becomes acquainted with the traditional sounds of Asia\, the program shifts to new compositions that intertwine the sonorities of the East and West\, written by American composers such as Hung-Ping Chang and Jay Reise. \nThroughout the performance\, some of our musicians will offer brief explanations\, introducing the instruments and sharing the cultural and philosophical inspirations behind the pieces—connecting the audience to the myths\, aesthetic objects\, and traditions of Asia. Our performances are designed to be accessible to anyone interested in exploring unfamiliar sounds and ideas. While there is an educational component to our program\, no prior knowledge of Asian culture is required—just an open mind and curiosity. \nBring your family and meet your friends to enjoy an afternoon community concert of classical music. All are welcome!\nReception with Year of the Horse light snacks and beverages following the performance.  All proceeds benefit Good Shepherd Church
