    Sanakori (Taino Fun House, Shorakapok Earth Keepers, Mobile Indigenous Library, CyberBehike Podcast) will lead our Shorakapok Walk in Inwood Hill Park. This event will be conducted in English. Difficulty: Moderate. Accessibility: Not accessible to people using wheelchairs, walkers, canes or strollersNote: We will be exploring one of the oldest tracts of forest in NYC so make sure you're protected against sun exposure, ticks and mosquitoes by wearing closed-toed shoes, long sleeves, and using natural bug repellant

  • Inwood Hill Park: Fantastic Fungi Mushroom ID Hike

    Join the Urban Park Rangers in on a mushroom exploration! We will lead a guided mushroom walk through Inwood Hill Park and help locate mushroom species and discuss their unique qualities! Come learn about our funky fungi kingdom and the mycelial connections that are integral to our ecosystems.

  • Inwood Hill Park: iNaturalist Together Week – Evening Plant ID Walk

    Join NYC Parks and Macaulay Honors College to celebrate iNat Together Week, for an evening bioblitz at Inwood Hill Park, which is part of the Old-Growth Forest Network. Tina Cuevas, natural areas outreach coordinator at NYC Parks, will discuss restoration activities within NYC Parks and how monitoring plays a large part in how Parks works within our city’s natural areas and beyond. Kelly O’Donnell, lead NYC organizer for City Nature Challenge & director of Science Forward at Macaulay Honors College, will contextualize the data that iNaturalist captures and becomes part of a larger global dataset.

  • Hike the Heights: Exploring Highbridge Park,City of Forest Day

    Highbridge Park Sunken Playground West 167th and Edgecombe Ave., New York, NY, United States

    Join Hike the Heights for an educational hike through Highbridge Park (10am-12pm) as we celebrate the 5th City of Forest Day. Starting location: Sunken Playground on Edgecombe Avenue. During the hike we will discuss basic tree identification, look for plants that can be foraged and its benefits, as well as a trail clean up. The hike will convene at the Inaugural New York Restoration Project (NYRP) Paw Paw Festival at Sherman Creek Park (12-4pm)
