SUMMARY:Inwood Canoe Club: Little Red Lite Swim
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the inaugural 2026 Little Red Lite Swim \nInspired by the spirit of the classic Little Red Lighthouse 10K marathon swim\, a beloved event once hosted by NYC Swim\, the inaugural Little Red Lite Swim offers a new opportunity to experience Manhattan’s iconic open-water scene. \nThis shorter\, current-assisted swim follows a beautiful 6.4 km / 4 mi route along one of the most scenic stretches of the Hudson River. The swim begins at Inwood Canoe Club\, just south of Dyckman Street and finishes at the Baylander\, a former U.S. Navy vessel now docked at the West Harlem Piers near 125th Street and converted into a relaxed floating bar and restaurant. \nAlong the way\, swimmers will cruise downriver along the Manhattan shoreline\, passing under the George Washington Bridge and by the Little Red Lighthouse\, Riverbank State Park\, and the Hudson River Greenway before finishing at the Baylander. \nThe Little Red Lite Swim is a non-competitive\, non-timed event designed for swimmers who may not be ready for a marathon-distance swim but still want the thrill of swimming in the beautiful Hudson River. \n9:00 AM check-in\, 10:30 AM splash

SUMMARY:Bruce's Garden Reading – Leslie Day – River: A Hudson Memoir
DESCRIPTION:It is with great pleasure that we welcome the acclaimed naturalist and writer\, Leslie Day as this year’s Sid Horenstein Memorial Reader.  \nShe will read from and discuss her newest book\, River–A Hudson Memoir (Cornell University Press\, 2025.)  The book offers a unique look at Dr. Day’s life when\, in 1975\, she moved to a tiny houseboat at the 79th St. Boat Basin on the Hudson. It is a love letter to New York City\, the Hudson River\, as well as the environment around us and the people who shape it. \nDr. Day had lead many nature walks and had taught widely throughout the city.  Her books include Field Guide to the Natural World of New York City\, Field Guide to the Street Trees of New York City\, Field Guide to the Neighborhood Birds of New York City\, Honeybee Hotel: the Waldorf Astoria’s Roof Garden and the Heart of New York City\, https://www.lesliedaynyc.com/about \nSid Horenstein was a noted geologist and educator at the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a neighbor and good friend to Bruce’s Garden. Each year we ask a distinguished naturalist to read to honor his memory.

SUMMARY:Word Up Recirculation: BIPOC Open Mic Book Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Open Mic Book Exchange is a collaborative afternoon of storytelling\, poetry\, and community. \nBring a book that means something to you or buy one at the shop when you arrive. We’ll open up the mic and everyone is invited to share a piece\, whether it’s a poem or a song inspired by the book\, or a story about the version of yourself who first found it\, this is a space to reflect\, create\, and connect. After everyone shares we will exchange books with one another\, so everyone leaves with a new story to read! \nPlease be sure to arrive early to give yourself ample time to shop if you aren’t coming with a book.
