SUMMARY:Our Saviour’s Atonement: Meditative Mondays - Mirror
DESCRIPTION:Meditative Mondays is a unique experience combining a guided meditation with a live performance of music by some of the most important composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. \nOn June 15th we’ll pair the meditation goal of self reflection with an iconic piece by “mystical minimalist” composer Arvo Pärt.  We’ll perform Spiegel Im Spiegel\, which means Mirror In Mirror\, composed in Pärt’s “tintinnabular” style consisting of a lyrical melody and spare\, “bell-like” accompaniment.  We’ll also perform John Cage’s piece In a Dream\, a meditative arrangement of Miles Davis’ dreamy Blue ‘N Green and a beautiful new piece by Australian composer Elena Kats Chernin. \nSeth Boustead – piano\nVeronika Alter – cello\nMeditation guide by Katie Bellamy

SUMMARY:Lost Inwood: Inwood Sports\, Illustrated
DESCRIPTION:LOST INWOOD \n-Inwood Sports\, Illustrated- \n-TUESDAY JUNE 2nd at 7:30PM- \nBatter Up! When it comes to the subject of sport\, Inwood has seen its share. Of course there are well-known activities like football\, baseball\, basketball\, tennis\, skating\, bowling and boating. But how about more esoteric pastimes such as automotive hill-climbs\, bicycle racing or cricket? \nThis Tuesday June 2nd 7:30pm at INWOOD FARM\, LOST INWOOD will delve into the colorful history of sport in north Manhattan. We’ll hear about the rich baseball history of the old Dyckman Oval stadium. We’ll regale you with tales of the Boat clubs along the Harlem and Hudson where olympians trained. The Inwood Little League\, over seventy-five seasons and counting. The story of Baker field. How about Dyckman basketball? Or street racing on Broadway 100 years ago? \nBut wait\, there’s more. Famous sports figures\, the rope tow at Van Cortlandt park’s ski slope\, and if you’re into sports from the 1700s\, we’ll have… fox hunts?! \nIt’s going to be fun. Tuesday June 2nd 7:30 PM at Indian Farm. Please join us for this free presentation. Reservations are recommended. \nDon Rice \nThe Inwood Farm  \n600 West 218th Street (corner Indian Road) \ntel 212-884-2111 \ntheinwoodfarm.com \nReservations can be made by email: monicajjones@icloud.com

SUMMARY:Dyckman Farmhouse Museum: Back Porch History 2026 - Reclaiming Pinkster with Lavada Nahon
DESCRIPTION:An hour-long lecture that dissects what Pinkster was and why celebrating it expands the humanity of the enslaved and their descendants. \nLearn about the historical and cultural significance of Pinkster with Lavada Nahon\, the Interpreter of African American History at NYS Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Sites! \nConnected to New York’s Black history is the oldest African celebration in the nation. During Pinkster celebrations\, enslaved and free Africans gathered around the colony and state to rest\, renew family and friendship ties\, and reconnect to a European faith that had been transformed in West Central Africa. Choices made by the Black community as they moved from property to people lessened Pinkster’s importance but did not erase its historic significance. \nRegistration required on Eventbrite! \nLavada Nahon is the Interpreter of African American History for the Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation\, Bureau of Historic Sites. A position she has held since its inception in 2019. With nearly 30 years of public history experience\, she focuses on New Netherland and New York\, 17th through 19th centuries\, specifically\, the lives and cultures of Africans and their descendants\, enslaved and free. As a culinary and cultural historian\, she has worked for a wide variety of historic sites and organizations around the tri-state region. Her mission is to bring history to life by giving presence to the Africans and people of African descent enslaved and free\, in New Netherland and New York in whatever way possible.
