SUMMARY:WHCO & Inwood Hill Park: Summer Picnic Concert - Riverside Brass Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Bring your picnic blanket to relax with the Riverside Brass Quintet in Inwood Hill Park and enjoy a program that is “quintessentially NYC” with music by George Gershwin\, Lin Manuel Miranda\, John Batiste\, Will Aaronson and more. \nWhat started as a group of friends reading music and sharing bagels in an apartment on Riverside Drive\, Riverside Brass Quintet (RBQ) redefines contemporary chamber music through novel performances\, community-driven projects\, and purposeful collaboration. RBQ is committed to uplifting local artists and ensembles; their Brass on Broadway series enabled Upper Manhattan residents to attend and explore popular Broadway music in three varied venues across Central Harlem\, Washington Heights and Inwood. \nThis performance takes place in Inwood Hill Park\, on Pat’s Lawn. Bathrooms can be found inside the nearby Nature Center or the restaurant Inwood Farm with purchase of food or beverage. Come early to talk a walk in the largest remaining old-growth forest in Manhattan\, explore the newly renovated Inwood Hill Nature Center and be sure to stop by our WHCO sponsor CHOCnyc for their incredible homemade ice cream. \nThese concerts are free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic\, blankets\, or chairs\, and we kindly ask that you help maintain the cleanliness and care of our shared public spaces. \nRain date: August 30th at 2pm in Inwood Hill Park\, Pat’s Lawn.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrating diverse voices with chamber music by Lizzo\, Coleman\, Still\, Márquez & more. \nIndigo Wind Quintet is a trailblazing wind chamber ensemble reshaping what chamber music sounds\, looks\, and feels like. Through inclusive performance\, radical accessibility\, and community-centered collaboration\, Indigo Wind Quintet is committed to decolonizing the chamber music experience and amplifying the voices of underrepresented composers and communities. Avery (bassoon). \nUnited by a shared belief in the power of music to connect and disrupt\, Indigo Wind Quintet embraces creative risk-taking and challenges tradition for tradition’s sake. Their programming is rooted in community-driven storytelling\, curating works that reflect lived experience\, cultural heritage\, and social consciousness. Their debut program\, Heritage and Horizons\, centered works by Valerie Coleman\, Paquito D’Rivera\, Jeff Scott\, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor\, exploring themes of migration\, identity\, and resistance across the African diaspora. \nThis performance at Buunni Inwood will feature incredible works by Valerie Coleman\, William Grant Still\, Manuel Ponce\, Arturo Márquez\, Paquito D’Rivera\, and Lizzo. SUMMARY:Feminist Film Series! ☀️🎬: STATELESS
DESCRIPTION:Join Undocumented Women’s Fund and Roxa Luxemburg Stiftung on Saturday\, August 22nd for the last installment of our Summer! ☀️🎬 \nWe are ending on a high note with Stateless\, a power documentary by Michele Stephenson\, that follows families of those affected by the 2013 legislation stripping citizenship from Dominicans of Haitian descent\, uncovering the complex history and present-day politics of Haiti and the Dominican Republic through the grassroots electoral campaign of a young attorney named Rosa Iris. \n📆 Saturday\, August 22nd \n📍 Haven Plaza (711 W 168th St\, New York\, NY 10032) \n🚪 Doors open: 7:30 PM \n🎥 Screening: 8:30 PM \nAfter the screening\, stay for a discussion on how the film sheds light on what is at stake in the fight over birthright citizenship\, statelessness as an immigration regime\, and translocal politics. We will have a surprise guest join us for the discussion. \nRSVP and Donate at: https://givebutter.com/2026-summer-feminist-film-series-3 \nSuggested donation $10 (nobody turned away for lack of funds). See you then!

SUMMARY:Fort Washington Library: Friday Matinee "Singing in the Rain"
DESCRIPTION:Join us in our Community Room where films that will make you laugh\, cry\, scream\, or sing. \nWe are showing the classic “Singing in the Rain” with Gene Kelly\, Debbie Reynolds\, and Donald O’Connor. \nWhen the transition is being made from silent films to `talkies’\, everyone has trouble adapting. Don and Lina have been cast repeatedly as a romantic couple\, but when their latest film is remade into a musical\, only Don has the voice for the new singing part. After a lot of practise with a diction coach\, Lina still sounds terrible\, and Kathy\, a bright young aspiring actress\, is hired to record over her voice.
