This Spooky Season\, book an exclusive paranormal investigation at Manhattan’s oldest surviving house\, where you will learn the background of paranormal investigations\, including the legendary paranormal activity at Morris-Jumel Mansion\, while learning the history of the Mansion\, its former residents\, and interesting facts about the museum collection. During the program\, you will have after-dark access to ghost hunt in the period rooms of the Mansion\, normally closed off to the public. Believers and skeptics alike will enjoy the evening\, and will have the opportunity to possibly communicate with Morris-Jumel Mansion’s former residents using paranormal investigative equipment. \nThis event is strictly for those 18 and over.  Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing.  This event is capped at 16 participants. \nGuests will not be permitted entry to the park/mansion before 6:45pm; the tour will begin promptly at 7pm; the gates will be closed and locked at 7:05pm and no entry will be permitted after that time. The Mansion does not have an elevator\, and this event takes place on multiple floors that are only accessible via stairways. \nBecause of the high demand for this event\, guests will be limited to one paranormal investigation per season until further notice. Any duplicate orders will be refunded in order to ensure we can allow as many members of our community to experience this unique event as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Reach out the Mansion at 212-923-8008 if you would like to book a private Paranormal Tour

SUMMARY:United Palace: Crackalackin' Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Crackalackin’ Concert of Classical Music\nBringing It Back Home\, Uptown \nOne of the United Palace of Cultural Arts’ (UPCA) programming goals is to find innovative ways to make classical music accessible to new and old audiences\, particularly by combining the genre with other art forms. “The Crackalackin’ Concert of Classical Music” serves as a dynamic platform designed to break down barriers and make the beauty of classical music accessible to everyone\, including underrepresented communities\, ensuring it resonates with a diverse and inclusive audience. (NOTE: “Crackalackin’” is old-time (as far back as the 1990s!) urban slang for what’s new\, relevant\, and happening. We think it is a great description of how people should feel about classical music.) \nThis year’s theme is Bringing It Back Home\, Uptown and features performances and mash-ups by: \n-Crackalackin’ Symphony Orchestra (Musicians of all ages are welcome to sign up here)\n-DJ Boo\n-Leadlights Ensemble\n-Washington Heights Community Choir (WHCC)\n-Washington Heights Community Conservatory of Fine Arts (WHCCFA) and Association of Dominican Classical Artists (ADCA) \n“So many people are turned off by classical music because they see it as a corny\, elitist art form\,” said Fitelson\, who 12 years ago co-created The Hip Hop Nutcracker\, now an annual touring show produced by New Jersey Performing Arts Center. “We believe classical music is timeless and seek new\, crackalackin’ ways to help audiences discover it.” \nAct I kicks off with a performance by the Crackalackin’ Symphony Orchestra\, freshly created for the event by community musicians of all skills\, performing new arrangements of Celia Cruz songs and William Grant Still’s “Poem for Orchestra.” \nThe event features the world-premiere of a collage of videos taken of the community by Northern Manhattan residents while students from several local community programs\, overseen by ADCA\, perform “Bacchanale Dance” from Camille Saint-Saëns’ grand opera “Samson and Delilah.” \nLeadlights performs “The Seasons of Inwood\,” created by violinst Evelyn Petcher based upon the wide range of stories\, musical ideas\, and reflections on Inwood. \nThe Washington Heights Community Choir sings tunes with local ties\, inviting the audience to join in a sing-along. \nAs always\, throughout the day DJ Boo will perform his turntable magic\, mixing the classical genre with the beats and sounds of today. \nAct II features the debut of 4 songs of a work-in-progress celebrating the United Palace’s 100th anniversary in 2030. The show\, “Wonder Theatre Revival\,” is a musical history of the United Palace and its audiences\, written by Mike Fitelson and brought to life by 6 singers and a dozen local musicians. \nDoors: 4:30pm\, Show: 5:00pm \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us to discuss one of NYPL’s Best New Comics for Adults\, Charity and Sylvia by Tillie Walden. \nThe (mostly) true story of Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake\, two women who met and fell in love in Vermont in 1807 when Charity moved to Weybridge from Massachusetts. Being openly gay isn’t easy in early America\, but the two immediately connect and spend the next 44 years together\, building a life in spite of the odds\, as a lesbian couple in small town Vermont. \nAll adults welcome! No need to finish the book to attend. \nThis discussion will be led by our adult librarian\, who contributed to the newly released 2026 NYPL Best New Comics for Adults List. Out of 400 books\, 50 were chosen. This is one of carefully selected titles! \nCheck out the book at the library—request to pick it up at your closest library branch  or check out the e-book\,

SUMMARY:Inwood Art Works Dimensions of Darkness: Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park (Gordon Hessler\, 1978)
DESCRIPTION:An exploration of terror and the fantastic from Northern Manhattan.  “Dimensions of Darkness” is a four-part series exploring the horror\, science fiction and the fantastic\, with a focus on filmmakers\, writers and performers from or associated with the northern Manhattan and surrounding areas.  Curated and hosted by production and screening collective KHLOARIS and Inwood Art Works. \nKiss  had Marvel comics\, action figures and all sorts of merchandising targeted to kids and teenagers. Their science fiction and horror-fueled costumes and imagery made Kiss appear as if they were really from another world. A movie seemed the natural next step\, so Kiss teamed with kids’ animation powerhouse Hanna-Barbera for one of the strangest rock band vehicle movies ever made. Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park plays very much like a live action episode of “Scooby-Doo\,” with songs by Kiss. Kiss founder Paul Stanley was born Stanley Bert Eisen\, and was raised in Inwood\,  The feature will preceded by “Supaidâman” (“Spider-Man\,” Koîchi Takemoto\, 1978)\, a Japanese theatrical short with a very unusual take on Spider-Man. Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee spent his formative years on Fort Washington Ave. in Washington Heights. He could often be found watching adventure films at the Loew’s 175th Street Theater (now known as the United Palace)\, This Japanese production is one of the first theatrical presentations of one of Lee’s creations. \nFrom Edgar Allan Poe’s explorations of undeveloped northern Manhattan wilderness to H.P. Lovecraft’s documented walking tours of then-Inwood Forest (which Lovecraft described as “…a forest primeval\, with winding paths\, gigantic trees\, and not a mortal in sight.”)\, the northern Manhattan area has been home to countless famous and unusual imaginations. The beginnings of the film industry were right across the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee\, where luminaries like famed magician Harry Houdini hung from the Palisades cliffs in early film serials; the origin of the term “cliffhanger”. \n(Doors at 7:00pm) The Stuff and Dust Devil are both R-rated\, and not suitable for children. Dracula and Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park are either unrated or PG-rated. After each screening\, we’ll hang out to connect and talk about the films. \n

SUMMARY:Dyckman Farmhouse: Opening Reception "Spot P!"
DESCRIPTION:Come and celebrate the opening of Spot P! by Kasper Klop\, Deron Gopie\, and Morwenna Spagnol. Free and open to the public.\nPeter Stuyvesant is often credited with laying the foundations for what became New York City. \nToday\, this man of Dutch origin is celebrated all around town: statues\, neighborhoods in his name\, cigarette brand…\nYet\, if we take a closer look\, he was a trader and owner of enslaved Africans in the United States.  Bolstered by his fortune and his influence\, he sold enslaved people at public auction\, held and expressed deeply antisemitic views\, violently oppressed the Lenape\, and actively suppressed religious minorities. \nDutch artist Kasper Klop asked himself: what is my responsibility to reckon with this history as a Dutch person\, and what would happen if the full story got told\, rather than a partial one\, as so often happens in our commemorative landscape? \nIn collaboration with his long-time artistic partner Morwenna Spagnol\, and videographer Deron Gopie\, Kasper and the team created a multiple choice survey investigating how much New Yorkers really know about Stuyvesant\, and once they know the facts\, what they think about them. \nWhere did the team investigate? At three sites celebrating the old colonial officer: Stuyvesant Square in Manhattan with his very own statue\, Stuyvesant Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant (Brooklyn)\, and outside a smoke shop – because yes\, Peter even had a cigarette brand named after him\, whose branding was often based on white people discovering and appropriating exotic frontiers\, looking very cool and smoking Stuyvesants while doing so. \nWho got interviewed? Whoever happened to pass the place celebrating Stuyvesant at the moment in time that the team was there. People walking their dog\, coming back from work\, dropping their kids at school… In other words\, the collective. The team questioned the life of a place with the history behind its name. \nThe exhibition at Dyckman Farmhouse Museum showcases New Yorkers’ fascinating replies to the survey\, their knowledge (or lack thereof)\, views\, astonishment\, powerlessness\, indifference\, outrage and nuanced responses that grapple with holding multiple contradictions at once. Also on view are extracts from primary source materials – that is\, what Stuyvesant wrote in his own hand about his dark deeds\, as well as original letters addressed directly to him. \nSpot P! will be on view at Dyckman Farmhouse Museum from October 29\, 2026 to January 30\, 2027.

In 2025 it would be added to the National Film Registry for its cultural\, historical\, and significant contribution to the genre. There is no other film like it! \n

SUMMARY:The People’s Theatre: When You’re Home - An Uptown Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:One-Night Only Concert\nWhen You’re Home: An Uptown Cabaret\nwith Robin de Jesús & Linedy Genao \nFor one unforgettable night\, Broadway icons Robin de Jesús and Linedy Genao come uptown for an inaugural cabaret at The People’s Theatre celebrating the music\, memories\, and mischief that make New York feel like home. \nThis Uptown Cabaret is a genre-hopping love letter to Uptown: part Broadway concert\, part Latin music fever dream\, and part family party where the playlist moves from Juan Gabriel to Sunday in the Park with George—somehow it makes perfect sense. \nCreated especially for The People’s Theatre—Manhattan’s largest Latino performing arts theater—this one-night-only concert honors our rich immigrant stories\, neighborhood rhythms\, and the beautifully chaotic Uptown spirit that has always powered Washington Heights and Inwood. Expect big voices\, sharp humor\, sazón\, and the kind of chemistry that only these two beloved Broadway icons can bring. \nWelcome back home. Welcome back to Uptown! \nProduced in partnership with Carlos E. Hernandez / IKIGAI Management & Media \nCabaret Happy Hour: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nConcert: 7:30 PM \nNEW DATE: When You’re Home: An Uptown Cabaret has been rescheduled to November 2 at 7:30 PM as Linedy Genao recovers from an injury sustained during a recent Broadway performance. Current ticket holders: Your tickets will automatically transfer to the new date—no action is needed. If you have any questions or need assistance with your tickets\, please contact our Box Office at boxoffice@thepeoplestheatre.org.

SUMMARY:Up Theater: "Desperately Seeking the Exit"
DESCRIPTION:A special live reading of the international hit show about a sh*t show … with bonus footage! \nIn 2007\, American actor and playwright Peter Michael Marino wrote a musical based on the film “Desperately Seeking Susan\,” featuring the hit songs of Blondie. It opened on London’s West End…and closed a month later. Whoops! This high-octane\, comical roller coaster ride has played everywhere from Edinburgh to London\, and LA to NYC. The critically-acclaimed solo show fills in the blanks of how the $6 million musical was made\, and unmade. From hatching the idea to deals with MGM\, Debbie Harry\, and even Madonna – all the way to thrilling workshops\, dangerous previews\, scathing reviews\, closing night\, and beyond. \nPeter Michael Marino is a NYC-based writer\, producer\, performer\, and educator whose work has been seen on five continents. Pete recently performed his epic\, sci-fi\, tabletop adventure\, “Planet of the Grapes” – which received 4-star reviews and a Malcolm Hardee Comedy Award Nomination at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He’s the creator of the long-running\, critically acclaimed\, interactive family comedy “Show Up\, Kids!” – which continues to run in NYC after 8 years. Pete was a frequent collaborator with The (former) Kennedy Center and Washington National Opera\, creating several educational videos and live stage shows. He appeared in STOMP for five years off-Broadway and on tour.
