She works to end homelessness as an elected official. She was the Organizing Director for Media Justice and co-founded the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center. She teaches at the University of Illinois\, School for Designing a Society\, and internationally. \nElizabeth Adams\, PhD\, is a composer\, teacher\, and caregiver who has worked at the intersection of art\, education\, and organizing for over twenty years. She produces anti-capitalist music concerts\, created pop-up political education spaces with Free University NYC\, and won historic rent laws with the Crown Heights Tenant Union. She has taught at Columbia University and the School for Designing a Society. \nABOUT THE INTERLOCUTOR\nDavid Friend is a musician and activist based in Washington Heights. With a primary focus on new and experimental music\, he performs regularly in major venues and festivals in NYC\, across the country\, and abroad. He records regularly with a wide variety of collaborators\, and was a featured guest artist on Third Coast Percussion’s Steve Reich album\, winning the GRAMMY award for chamber music. A passionate educator and unionist\, he serves as co-Vice President of ARTS-MSM\, NYSUT Local 6498.

Based in the wilds of northern Manhattan the ensemble has launched their first concert series season\, Still Here | One\, Two and Three in NYC. \nThe Morris-Jumel Mansion is Manhattan’s oldest surviving residence. The Morris-Jumel Mansion\, built in 1765\, preserves\, collects\, and interprets history\, culture\, and the arts to explore inclusive narratives that engage and inspire diverse audiences. Currently\, the Museum is undergoing a long-awaited resoration and accessibility project. While temporarily closed until Spring 2026\, the Mansion is offering a diverse array of off-site and virtual programming to continue serving audiences of all ages.

DESCRIPTION:Hudson View Gardens Performing Arts group presents HVG’s own pianist David Kalhous and the award-winning violinist Benjamin Sung for a concert in The Lounge on Sunday\, March 22\, 2026 at 5 pm. \nThe program features music by some of the most celebrated German and Czech composers: Johann Sebastian Bach’s virtuosic Sonata in E Major for violin and harpsichord\, Leoš Janáček’s wondrous Sonata written in 1914\, and a work by one of the most original Czech composers of the early 20th century\, Vítězslava Kaprálová. A highlight of the program is the Fantasy in C Major by Franz Schubert\, which is one of the most challenging pieces in the violin-piano repertoire. \nIn addition to being an HVG resident\, Kalhous is a familiar face at The Lounge\, having most recently performed in the “Friends & Neighbors Concert” last December. He teaches at Florida State University alongside Benjamin Sung\, and the two musicians are frequent collaborators. Sung is also a Faculty Artist and Violin Coordinator at the Brevard Music Center\, where he serves as Concertmaster of the Brevard Opera Orchestra. \nThe concert is open to the public; admission is $20 suggested donation ($15 for seniors/students; under 8 free) at the door\, at The Lounge at HVG (128 Pinehurst Ave at West 183rd Street in Manhattan).
