Who was Duncan Phyfe (1770-1854) and why was his furniture so highly sought after by 19th century New York society? Join Carswell Rush Berlin and Mansion Executive Director, Shiloh Holley, for a conversation about the Scottish-American furniture and cabinetmaker, Duncan Phyfe, and explore examples of Phyfe’s work in the Mansion’s collections. Highlights will include a focus on the Mansion’s original Octagon Room suite, commissioned by Eliza Jumel during her redecoration of the Mansion in 1825-1826 to reflect the popular French Empire or Neoclassical style. A conversation with conservator, Olaf Unsoeld, from Fine Wood Conservation will follow.
