Word Up welcomes Dan Rimada, the founder of the beloved archive Bodega Cats of New York (now a book with the same name), which led to bodega cat legislation in New York City and New York State! To celebrate the cats in our neighborhood, we'll be hosting a cat supply drive in November! These are some of the people at the heart of Still Alive—friends in Gaza whose lives have become closely connected with people in Inwood. The exhibition brings their photographs into the gallery at a scale we rarely give to the images people share in everyday life. Made by them or with their participation, the portraits show people as they have chosen to be seen.
Uptown Out presents a reading and show with Joe Fonda, a prolific composer, bassist, recording artist, interdisciplinary performer, producer, and educator. He has appeared on over 300 recordings, performed all across North America and Europe, and collaborated with many adventurous musicians, including long associations with Anthony Braxton and Wadada Leo Smith. This event marks the release of his autobiography, My Life in the World of Music.
