    Prelude Opera presents a new opera composed by Laura Jobin-Acosta and Joanie Brittingham.The Brementown Musicians is from an old German fairy tale collected by the Grimm Brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, in 1819 and given the title Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten. In our version, four animals escape their cruel owners and band together to form a musical quartet heading to Bremen, a town known for music. On the way they discover a house with treasures inside but must outwit the villanous robber.

    The Inwood Pumpkin Pageant will return to beautiful Isham Park on November 1st for its 13th edition. Bring your carved jack-o-lantern to the park the night after Halloween and we will light them up for a family-friendly community display. Vote for your favorite designs to see if they will win the coveted Blue Ribbon! For older kids, pumpkin smashing starts at 7:30 pm as we prepare the rotting gourds for composting, keeping them out of the landfills.

On this evening, Rita joins us for her first literary event in the neighborhood she calls home. She will be in conversation with Alex V. Cruz to discuss her return to fiction, and the intersections of literature, music, memory, Santo Domingo, identity, and place that have shaped her singular body of work.
