Dance Project of Washington Heights is celebrating Black History Month with a series of workshops and classes for movers of all ages and levels of experience.
On Saturday, February 15 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM join instructor and professional dancer Amina Vargas for a special open level West African dance class with live accompaniment by a drummer from the Kankouran West African Dance Company! This will be a fun, high energy class enjoying and exploring the rhythm and movement of traditional, Senegalese and Liberian dance.
Powerhouse trumpeter James Zollar, a performer with the Duke Ellington and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestras, as well as the Count Basie Band, takes center stage with his electrifying group, Zollar Systems. Delivering a blend of groove-infused rhythms and straight-ahead bebop, the band brings Zollar’s three critically acclaimed albums to life. Prepare for an unforgettable night of high-energy jazz that will move your soul!
