    Dear Earth is conceived as a visual letter to our planet — an act of address, apology, gratitude, or promise. We invite artists to consider what it means to speak directly to the earth at this moment. Themes include healing and art as a site of repair; the immediacy of the unfolding crisis; calls to action and appeals for planetary change; preservation and cultivation of indigenous lands; the fragility of the earth and our own; uncertainty or hope; the honoring of beauty and resilience; the artist as witness.Featuring 29 artists from West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood.

  • Dyckman Farmhouse: Opening Reception “Spot P!”

    Come and celebrate the opening of Spot P! by Kasper Klop, Deron Gopie, and Morwenna Spagnol. Peter Stuyvesant is often credited with laying the foundations for what became New York City. Yet, if we take a closer look, he sold enslaved people, expressed deeply antisemitic views, violently oppressed the Lenape, and actively suppressed religious minorities. Dutch artist Kasper Klop asked himself: what is my responsibility to reckon with this history as a Dutch person, and what would happen if the full story got told. The team created a multiple choice survey investigating how much New Yorkers really know about Stuyvesant, and once they know the facts, what they think about them.

    STILL ALIVE: Seeing friends in Gaza.  Portraits, as they see themselves. Malak. Hind. Adel. Nabil. Heba. Mona. Mohammed. Sobhi. These are some of the people at the heart of Still Alive—friends in Gaza whose lives have become closely connected with people in Inwood. The exhibition brings their photographs into the gallery at a scale we rarely give to the images people share in everyday life. Made by them or with their participation, the portraits show people as they have chosen to be seen.
