The People’s Theater: Día de Muertas

For the seventh year in a row, Undocumented Women’s Fund invites you to our Día de Muertas, a feminist and immigrant justice take on Día de Muertos.

Día de Muertos is a traditional holiday that warmly welcomes back the souls of departed loved ones. Families illuminate cemeteries and build colorful ofrendas laden with bright cempasúchil marigolds, candlelight, favorite dishes, and sugar skulls. Rather than a time of mourning, it is a spirited celebration of remembrance, affirming that love and memory endure beyond death. Hence, Día de Muertas is our yearly event to honor and celebrate the lives of women, children, and gender-expansive people we have lost at the hands of a murderous immigration system, whether on their journey north, in detention, or after deportation.

There will be flowers, music, art making, food and learning about our traditions!

This event is a collaboration with NYIC and DSA Latinos Socialistas. See you there

People’s Theatre: Fall Fest +Lucha Libre

Bring the whole family to Uptown Fall Fest + Lucha Libre!, a celebration of fall, Halloween, Día de los Muertos, and our Uptown community. Admission to Fall Fest is FREE with RSVP and includes a bounce house, a costume contest, arts & crafts, live performances, games, a salsa dance workshop, a Día de los Muertos altar, and a community resource fair.

Plus, in partnership with Fuego Lucha Entertainment, experience two different live Lucha Libre shows at 1 PM and 3 PM, each with its own story, in our Mainstage Theatre.  Come in costume and make a day of it! Face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, and empanadas will also be available throughout the day.

¡Ven con toda la familia a Uptown Fall Fest + Lucha Libre!, una celebración del otoño, Halloween, Día de los Muertos y nuestra comunidad de Uptown. La entrada a Fall Fest es GRATIS con reservación e incluye un castillo inflable, un concurso de disfraces, artes y manualidades, presentaciones en vivo, juegos, un taller de baile de salsa, un altar de Día de los Muertos y una feria de recursos comunitarios. Además, en colaboración con Fuego Lucha Entertainment, disfruta de dos espectáculos diferentes de Lucha Libre en vivo a la 1 PM y 3 PM, cada uno con su propia historia, en nuestro Mainstage Theatre. ¡Ven con tu disfraz y disfruta de todo el día! También habrá pintura de caras, algodón de azúcar, palomitas de maíz y empanadas durante el festival.

Wayfinding is a devised theater piece weaving together three stories—of escape, survival, and discovery—with the personal journeys of its performers. Drawing from myths and old tales, the piece explores how we find our place in the world: reading stars, following trails, and navigating the invisible labyrinths of everyday life. As the stories unfold, the audience becomes part of the map.
