Panel on Youth Environmental Justice in Washington Heights

Please join youth leaders from the Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS) and staff and board members from Friends of WHEELS for a virtual community conversation on environmental (in)justice issues, public health, and youth justice in Washington Heights. Youth leaders will talk about their initiative The Clean Air Green Corridor (CAGC).

The CAGC is a Youth-led initiative empowering young people from the Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS) to reimagine how we transform our built environment so that it may inform bold solutions to environmental and climate injustice in Washington Heights and beyond.

Inspired by an elective course led by Mr. Erick Espin and Dr. Jared Fox, the vision for the CAGC is to transform 182nd into a hub for community-powered environmental and climate justice action that integrates arts and culture in Washington Heights and equitable access to Highbridge Park, an often overlooked and underutilized, but nonetheless, an essential ribbon of green space on the perimeter of our neighborhood.
