Washington Heights Library: Book Club – Graphic Novel edition!

October 28 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
FREE

Join us to discuss one of NYPL’s Best New Comics for Adults, Charity and Sylvia by Tillie Walden.

The (mostly) true story of Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake, two women who met and fell in love in Vermont in 1807 when Charity moved to Weybridge from Massachusetts. Being openly gay isn’t easy in early America, but the two immediately connect and spend the next 44 years together, building a life in spite of the odds, as a lesbian couple in small town Vermont.

All adults welcome! No need to finish the book to attend.

This discussion will be led by our adult librarian, who contributed to the newly released 2026 NYPL Best New Comics for Adults List. Out of 400 books, 50 were chosen. This is one of carefully selected titles!

Check out the book at the library—request to pick it up at your closest library branch  or check out the e-book,
