Trick or treat at the historic Fort Tryon Park Cottage and discover a Halloween celebration like no other!

Families and neighbors are invited to explore the haunted grounds of this landmark building, where spooky decorations and festive photo spots will bring the holiday to life. Take pictures and enjoy the fun of seeing the cottage transformed into a haunted house for one night only.

The Haunted Cottage will take place at 741 Fort Washington Avenue, on the corner of Margaret Corbin Circle.

Fort Tryon Park: Fall Migration Birding Tour

Join local expert birder Alexandra Wang for a Fall Migration Birding Tour .  As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, migratory birds pass through , offering a rare chance to see a variety of species.

During this guided tour, Alexandra will share tips for identifying different birds, explain their migratory patterns, and highlight the habitats within the park that support them. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just curious about the avian visitors, this tour is perfect for all skill levels.

What to bring: binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, and a keen eye for nature! Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the park and its fascinating wildlife during the peak of fall migration.

Fort Tryon Park: Historic Cottage at Fort Tryon Park (Open House New York)

Explore one of Upper Manhattan’s hidden treasures: the historic Cottage at Fort Tryon Park. Originally built as the gatehouse for the grand Billings Estate, this unique structure became part of the park when the land was transformed into public space in the early 1930s.

Today, the Cottage serves as the headquarters for NYC Parks’ Northern Manhattan Parks division and the Fort Tryon Park Conservancy—but for one special day, its doors will be open for the public to explore.

Take a self-guided look around this rarely opened building, get a glimpse into the past, and learn about the history of the cottage, the surrounding neighborhood, and how Fort Tryon Park came to be.

Friendly guides will be on hand throughout the day to share stories and answer questions. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with local history in one of NYC’s most beautiful parks.

Meet at Broadway and Bennett Park Entrance at 3PM  | Audience Members Guided Through the Park On Wheelchair Accessible Pathways

Celebrate National Dance Day with an immersive, multi-disciplinary arts experience in Fort Tryon Park!  Walk the Broadway path and encounter Uptown Dance Collective’s (UDC) “Tales: Altered and Repaired” inspired by folk and fairy tales with dance, music, and spoken word all woven into the landscape of the parkland.

UDC dance artists Lisa Green, Amy Kail, Navarra Novy-Williams, Sandra Rivera, and Maxine Steinman’s influences include Butoh, Ballet, Folk, Latinx Folklorico, Flamenco, Modern, and Afro-Caribbean.  Musicians John Ehlis, and Jessica Lurie join them on Saxophone, Flute, Guitar, and Percussion; and poet Paul Rabinowitz shares original poetry. Dancers Laura Mead, Caroline Fermin, and Paul Thompson will be joining us this year!

We encourage our audience to bring light pillows, blankets, or folding chairs you can easily carry as we go from site to site.

“Tales: Altered and Repaired” is made possible with support from Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone (UMEZ), The Harkness Foundation for Dance, and The Medical Center Neighborhood Fund. This event brings the arts to the outdoors—inviting you to move, witness, and connect.
