Dyckman Farmhouse – Colonial Crossroads: A Pinkster Celebration

Join the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum and Carla & Keyes for “Colonial Crossroads,” a Pinkster celebration!

Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 at 6PM

Colonial Crossroads is a family friendly interpretation of African and European traditions and instruments that influenced each other during the Colonial period. The audience is encouraged to participate in call-and-response and body percussion techniques. Jim is a multi-instrumentalist who uses baroque guitar, mandolin, mountain dulcimer and recorders to perform European music from the Colonial Era. Carla represents the African side of Colonial America through stories and songs performed on Shekere and Djembe.

UPTOWN ARTS STROLL: Warlé, A Multimedia Event Exploring LGBTQ+ Caregiving and Community

Kick off Pride Month with Warlé on June 2 at 2:30pm.
This multimedia event takes place at Fort Washington Collegiate Church on 181st Street, near Fort Washington Avenue.

Using storytelling, archival documents, photography and tango, Warlé is a dance-theater performance that conjures the lives of long-lost gay relatives – who were partners in life and in business for 58 years – and opens a conversation about care for LGBTQ+ elders.

In addition to the performance, there will be an introductory queer tango class.

Join NoMAA at a pre-Uptown Arts Stroll concert with Afro Dominicano, a World Music band that centers its music on what they call Afro Caribbean soul. They blend traditional folkloric genres from the Dominican Republic such as Perico Ripiao, Palo, Merengue de Orquesta, Bachata with Reggae, Bembe, Calypso, and Samba, Funk, Rock, and other African rhythms.

The rhythm of the waves, the sun on your face, and the exhilaration of slicing through the water all add up to an experience you’ll never forget. Our trained Urban Park Rangers will lead you on canoe adventures that range from the gentle waters of protected lakes to the challenging open waters of rivers and bays. All canoe programs are for ages 8 years and older. Participants are chosen by lottery. Lottery registration opens on Wednesday August 14.
