Fort Tryon Park: Tree Walk – A Canopy of Stories

Shorewalkers is hosting this walk in celebration of City of Forest Day.
We’ll learn to recognize some trees in the city by learning stories about them. We’ll walk in beautiful parks to get to know a sampling of trees, and venture on neighborhood sidewalks and see the trees as street plantings.
START TIME: Arrive at 10:00. Walk begins at 10:15.
END TIME: Approx 1:30pm’ish. End time is not exact.
End location: 168th St and Broadway, with options to drop out earlier or extend further. The end location is at a subway station.
Distance: The walk is designed to suit whatever distance you want to go. The route is about 3.5 miles, with easy drop-out spots for those who want a shorter walk. For those looking to walk a longer distance on their own, there are options to extend the route. We’ll never be far from public transportation.
Pace: Moderate, with frequent pauses to pay attention to the trees
Terrain: Sidewalks with sections on grass. The route includes hills and stairs.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Space is limited.
MEET at the pedestrian entrance to Fort Tryon Park, Margaret Corbin Circle, in upper Manhattan. Take A train to 190th Street, exit station via the elevator by the token booth. After exiting the elevator, go up the outdoor stairs on your right to street level. At the street, you’ll see the entrance to Fort Tryon Park to your right, across the traffic circle (not the playground straight ahead).
