Ever wonder about who created the Audubon bird murals on security gates and apartment buildings in Washington Heights? Who are the artists? Where are they from? Why did they paint climate-threatened North American birds all over Hamilton Heights and Washington Heights? Art historian, tour guide, and Northern Manhattan resident Mary-Beth Shine will answer these questions and many more with this fascinating
Participants will also learn a bit about Northern Manhattan’s culturally diverse and thriving community along the way. Things have changed a bit since John James Audubon lived here in the 19th century!
This is an outdoor walking tour of exterior murals with no steps but some uneven terrain. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
Children 14+ welcome. Every person attending, including children, requires a ticket.
