Music as Prayer Workshop

This workshop will introduce practices of humming, toning, as well as singing chants and songs. Using the breath and voice helps to quiet the mind and open yourself for connection to spirit. All these tools can be used to create a daily sound prayer practice to continue after the workshop. We will explore ways of experiencing music and how to use music and sound more effectively in daily life. In addition to sound the group makes together, Ruth will be creating meditative music using voice, medieval harp, and flute specifically for the group of people gathered.
Cost is $35 (scholarships available)
Please register by October 5.

Stay to enjoy light refreshments and meet D.D. Jackson.

Here’s what the jazz community says about D.D. Jackson:

“There’s the kinetic jazz pianist D.D. Jackson, for instance, about whom the drummer complained, ‘I never get to enjoy playing with him because I’m too busy trying to top him. Damn you, D.D., I’m hurting.’”
-Questlove, in the Wall Street Journal (“Questlove Shuffles to Brooklyn”, 4/18/12)

“An extraordinary pianist whose technical bravura is matched by a capacious hunger for adventure.”
-Gary Giddins, the Village Voice
