This November celebrate Family & Community Day at Morris-Jumel Mansion by creating your own shadow puppets! Shadow puppetry has been a popular form of entertainment for centuries, with roots in ancient cultures using silhouettes to tell stories through light and movement. Explore this fascinating art form and make your own puppets to bring to life! Materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

It’s 1959, and Boston’s Colonial Theatre is hosting the opening night performance of a new musical when the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage, making the entire cast and crew of the show potential suspects. Enter a local detective, who just happens to be a musical theatre fan! Packed with glorious tunes by Kander & Ebb, and a witty, charming book by Rupert Holmes, CURTAINS is a hilariously suspenseful musical comedy whodunit that will keep you guessing until the end!

William Theodore Carney III–known as TC the 3rd–grew up in Philadelphia, the son of local music legends Trudy Pitts and “Mr. C” who provided his unique musical training as well as exposure to the world of Jazz. Sugar Hill Museum is proud to partner with Jazz Foundation of America to bring his amazing sound to the plaza for a special outdoor performance with music, dancing and art making activities!

With the price of admission to the Mansion, drop in at any time from 11:30 AM-2:30 PM to experience multiple activations throughout the house featuring a live art demonstration by Andrea Arroyo, visual artist and creator of the special exhibition “Faces and Facades”, the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra, live readings by Poet Lisa “Rubi G” Ventura, and a talk by Margaret Oppenheimer, author of “The Remarkable Rise of Eliza Jumel” on the Women of the House during the Jumel’s residency.
