Buunni Inwood: The Bean Trio of Annette A Aguilar & StringBeans

About the band:

Although members of this group have been playing with each other for over 20 years, The focus of this group happened during the pandemic when they started performing on the streets in Northern Manhattan for the community known as the Bodega Pop-Ups. The trio has recently recorded some original compositions, and the plan is to have that recording available at the end of the year. The members of this group have played with top Latin and jazz artists in the field, and the name-dropping is just too long. We look forward to seeing you at Buunni on February 24th.@aaabeans (ig)

Buunni Inwood is an independent neighborhood coffee shop that brews small-batch roasted Ethiopian coffee beans. Many of the coffees are certified fair trade and organic, while others are sourced from small farms that are committed to responsible practices. Our cafes are neighborhood hubs, hosting musical evenings, readings, book clubs, roundtables, and more. Come on in. Beer & wine available for purchase as well!

What better way to warm up a cold winter night than the kaleidoscopic mastery of J.S. Bach performed under soothing candlelight?

Join House of Time in two concerts of their their specialty of Bach’s solos and trios paired with the rarely performed cantata “Amore Traditore.”

The highly sought after American Baritone Paul Max Tipton will join House of Time as soloist in one of Bach’s only secular cantatas in the Italian language.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the United Palace & Jazz Power come together to celebrate music as healer & balm for our hearts.  Grammy nominated vocalist Antoinette Montague teams up with Eli “Dr. E” Yamin and Jazz Power to create a Mardi Gras space filled with love & music where performance meets participation while sourcing our collective inspirational power to transform darkness into light. Be ready to move, groove & sing along with all your heart.  All ages & backgrounds are welcome. No prior experience required.

Joy in Darkness, a Mardi Gras Celebration is the third public event offered by The Muse, the United Palace of Spiritual Arts’ a monthly program celebrating inspiration, the arts & community, challenging participants to reimagine what’s possible in art & in life.

The event will culminate with a communal musical parade followed by a reception.

The event is free with registration.  The event schedule is as follows:

6:30pm Doors open

7:00pm Musical performance & ritual

8:15pm Reception

Guests are invited to bring a Mardi Gras mask to the event.  Some masks will be available at the event.

A brand-new trio of outstanding musicians makes its debut at HVG

in The Lounge at Hudson View Gardens

Maverick Offspring: Violist Stephanie Griffin, pianist Kathleen Supové, and flutist Tessa Brinckman

Maverick Offspring makes its ensemble debut at The Lounge at Hudson View Gardens on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 5 pm. This trio of outstanding performers – pianist Kathleen Supové, violist Stephanie Griffin, and flutist Tessa Brinckman – perform a program of sultry, ephemeral, and groove music from past and present.

The program features music by French impressionists Claude Debussy and Pierre Auclert and music from around the world, including by South African Andile Khumalo, Chinese-American Chen Yi and American Zack Browning. Compositions by the members of the trio include the world premiere of Stephanie Griffin’s For Joni and Nautical Twilight by Kathleen Supové.

About the Artists

Interdisciplinary New Zealand flutist Tessa Brinckman has been described as a “flutist of chameleon-like gifts” and “virtuoso elegance” (Gramophone). She has premiered over a hundred new works (commissioning nearly thirty) and her own compositions often include experimental animation, installations and video. tessabrinckman.com

Stephanie Griffin is an innovative composer and violist with an eclectic musical vision. She founded the Momenta Quartet in 2004, and is a member of Ensemble Ipse, the Argento Chamber Ensemble, and Continuum. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School where she studied with Samuel Rhodes.

Kathleen Supové has commissioned, performed and recorded music by a Who’s Who of composers. In addition to humans, she has performed with Yamaha Disklaviers, laptop orchestras, robots, and XReality. Projects include solo works about Migration, Women Warriors, and Last Words/Objects; Shocking Red, a duo with Michelle Shocked; and a violin-piano duo with Jennifer Choi. supove.com
