The story is a tale of redemption for paroled convict Jake and his brother Elwood, who set out on “a mission from God” to prevent the foreclosure of the Roman Catholic orphanage in which they were raised. To do so, they must reunite their (R&B) band and organize a performance to earn the $5,000 needed to pay the orphanage’s property tax bill.

On August 1, 8, and 15, NYC DOT’s Summer Streets returns, transforming Broadway into a vibrant public space from the Brooklyn Bridge all the way to Dyckman Street—right next to Anne Loftus Playground at the northern end of the route!
From 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, enjoy miles of open streets filled with walkers, runners, cyclists, live performances, fitness classes, interactive art, giveaways, and so much more. Whether you’re exploring Fort Tryon Park, heading to a fitness class, or simply enjoying a summer stroll, it’s the perfect way to experience Upper Manhattan without the traffic.
