October 12 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Join us on Sunday, October 12 at 4:00 PM on the Cloisters Lawn as we officially designate the park’s magnificent Great Ginkgo as one of NYC Parks’ celebrated Great Trees. This special ceremony honors the enduring beauty and ecological importance of this centuries-old landmark.
Following the commemoration, enjoy an open-air concert featuring Jhoely Garay and her ensemble. A New York–based guitarist, composer, arranger, and educator from Mexico, Jhoely blends straight-ahead swing, contemporary jazz, and vibrant Latin American rhythms. Through her music, she amplifies stories of climate awareness and overlooked histories, creating an unforgettable evening of sound and purpose.
Celebrate nature, music, and community beneath the golden autumn canopy of Fort Tryon Park’s Great Ginkgo!
November’s Connect260 session is one that you won’t want to miss! For this special version of our virtual program, we will stream live from the Morris-Jumel Mansion, with a special guest moderator, Curator and Cultural Historian John Reddick interviewing Evelyn Neal on her family’s experience as neighbors of the Morris-Jumel Mansion during the Civil Rights and Black Arts Movement.
You may recognize Evelyn’s name from our 260th anniversary exhibition “What the House Saw: 260 Years of Stories from the Morris-Jumel Collection and Community”. Together with her late husband, poet, writer, and academic Larry Neal, she experienced the neighborhood during this pivotal time in history and were an active part of its story.
Evelyn and John will discuss life in the neighborhood, which was still a hub of artists, intellectuals, and political leaders, from powerful moments to everyday joys. They will also discuss the life and work of her late husband, a founder of the Black Arts Movement and highly revered thought leader of the time.
The Morris-Jumel Mansion invites you to Roger Morris Park to enjoy a free family movie night. Bring a blanket, beach chairs, snacks, and drinks and enjoy this summer night tradition. Movie will start when the sun has gone down (approx. 8 PM). No tickets or registration required.
