Creative Aging: Photography Storytelling at Inwood NYPL

Creative Aging program series is geared for older adults aged 50+. Wednesdays, April 3 – May 8th at 10:30 AM, we’re hosting Photography Storytelling, with teaching artist Nefeli Soteriou.

Images can inform, enlighten, delight, and make our world a better place. Anyone can create them, but skill is required to express a personal vision. This course focuses on expressing your personal vision through a blend of teaching, coaching, mentoring on the elementals to Photography. It is about introducing students to the principles of the photographic composition with discussing reference imaging of Master classic works and becoming inspired to create your own photographs for a show exhibit, and, or, to decorate an empty wall in your living room. You will learn about the graphical elements of the visual representation, photographic composition, and will be guided to write expressively, complete a theme project, and learn to control your own digital technology, your i-pad, smart-phone, and, or, personal camera. You will come away with a new understanding of photography and design, and how to use photography to express your creativity, and, or, enhance your personal vision. Artistic skill is not required to participate in this course. Patrons will take home one printed photograph after the show exhibit is completed.

To participate in this program, you must pre-register.

Kids’ Workshops: ‘For the Love of Music’ at Word Up

For the Love of Music is an educational program that gives young children the opportunity to experience classical music in an exciting and engaging environment. Through interactive live performances, guided listening, and explorative conversations, kids will discover how to listen deeply and communicate openly.

Each series will consist of six weekly sequential sessions, and will focus on an overarching theme that incorporates both social and musical concepts. The series will end with a final concert of the music we explored during the workshops.

The workshops are free and will be led by uptown-based teaching artists Katherine Liccardo and Matt Consul. No prior musical experience is necessary to attend the workshops! Recommended for ages 7-11.
