Fort Washington Park: Tours of the Little Red Lighthouse

Join the Riverside Park ConservancyHistoric House Trust, and the Urban Park Rangers for tours of Manhattan’s only remaining lighthouse, and readings of the eponymous children’s book, the Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge.

As in years past, tours will be first come, first served. To safely and comfortably accommodate visitors, a limited number of timed tickets will be distributed beginning at noon on Saturday, November 4.

We highly recommend that visitors looking to tour the lighthouse earlier in the day arrive before noon. Tickets will be timed for a 40-minute window, and
ticketholders are asked to arrive on time for their scheduled tour.

Tour times are as follows:

  • Group 1 12:20 – 1:00
  • Group 2 12:50 – 1:30
  • Group 3 1:20 – 2:00
  • Group 4 1:50 – 2:30
  • Group 5 2:20 – 3:00
  • Group 6 2:50 – 3:30
  • Group 7 3:20 – 4:00
  • Group 8 3:50 – 4:30

Highbridge Park: Storytelling Nature Walk with Rachael Harrington

On this family-friendly nature walk with storyteller Rachael Harrington, participants will listen to folktales, observe the natural beauty of Highbridge Park, and try their hand at drawing the elements from the stories. Best suited for kids ages 4 to 9. Caregiver must accompany their child for the duration of the event.

Access notes: There are some slopes but no stairs on this route. Starting and ending location is Adventure Playground, on Edgecombe Ave at 164th St. For more information, contact ollie.demeio@parks.nyc.gov or 212-795-1388.

Highbridge Park: Movies Under the Stars: La Bamba

Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs.

A biography of Ritchie Valens, the young rocker who died in a 1959 plane crash with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper.

This movie begins at 7:00 p.m. This event is FREE and open to the public. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, the screening may be canceled. The decision to cancel the event will be made prior to the screening and will be promptly posted on our website.
