United Palace: “In the Heights” community celebration

“In the Heights “is coming home. And it starts right here!

United Palace is hosting a free community celebration before ‘In the Heights’ returns to the neighborhood that inspired it. Music from La Mega 97.9 with El Pachá on the mic, live performances from The Brotherhood/Sister Sol, City Center’s Preludes teen company, The Peoples Theatre Youth Company, and more, plus In the Heights merch giveaways.

Register with us that morning and you can grab $28 Heights Rush tickets to see ‘In the Heights’ at New York City Center this fall (Oct 28–Nov 15). Registrants get a single-use code for the 2pm digital rush, up to four tickets each.

A 10 year anniversary variety show fundraiser

Washington Heights and Inwood (WHIN) Food Council is a grassroots, majority volunteer-led Food Justice oriented 501(c)(3) that has been active since 2016. Their work involves food distributions for Domestic Violence survivors, community fridge support, identifying areas of food insecurity in Northern Manhattan, and so much more. They champion a long legacy of food access advocacy and (formerly) urban gardening in Washington Heights and Inwood. More about the event on Instagram

To celebrate this landmark achievement, we are throwing a variety show to not only celebrate the occasion, but as a love letter to the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods. Proceeds will go towards WHIN Food Council’s operating and administrative costs , which support our programming. As we serve a lot of families, this event is all ages; children must be accompanied by an adult. This is a LGBTQ safe space, and any bigotry present at the event will result in an immediate removal from the event.

We will be raffling giftcards to WordUp Community Bookstore, Workshop certificates to Uptown Stories, art from New York based artists, and more! Online ticket entry grants 1-3 raffle tickets.

We have a select amount of tickets for those experiencing financial hardship, so email whinfoodcouncil@gmail.com to inquire for those. ALL CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT!

Don’t miss our premiere event for 21+ audiences. For one night only, the Mansion returns to its roots as an Olde New York City Tavern. Step back in time to experience the lively historic music, entertainment, and fun that only an 18th-century tavern can offer! Of course, there will be a plethora of bites and beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) that George Washington himself would be envious of! This year’s event is bigger than ever, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, making for an unforgettable summer night on the historic grounds.

Located in the lush and historic Roger Morris Park, Tavern Night festivities are the perfect celebration of summertime in the city. Raise a glass with us at the Morris-Jumel Mansion–where history comes alive and good cheer is always on tap. Make your own tin can Drum Workshop with Gal Cohen  Let’s make some noise—creatively! Using recycled tin cans, we’ll design and build our own drums, then bring them to life with rhythm and sound. This workshop invites kids and grown-ups alike to explore making, decorating, and playing together.

Talking Drums Workshop by Shai Wetzer  “The rhythm exists within us, waiting to break out.  You will be surprised at what it has to say. Talking Drums Workshop is an engaging experience that introduces you to diverse rhythms from around the world, teaching various drumming styles on instruments like the darbuka, frame drum, and djembe. Together, we will explore rhythms using drums, percussive instruments, and our own bodies as we create music together that reflects our collective creativity and energy as a percussive ensemble. Learn to express yourself in a new way while enhancing your listening skills and teamwork abilities.
